Hair Today Gone Tomorrow

This post is 100% about me. You can give me your opinion and comments if you'd like but my hair has been driving me crazy lately and I hate it short. I like hair, I like to talk about my hair, I like to talk about your hair, his, hers, theirs, etc. I find it interesting how hair grows and changes with us, so I apoligize if you don't find this as interesting as I do.

This is a story about hair, more specifically my hair.
Once upon a time there was a girl who had beautiful long virgin hair.
This picture was hard to find. Apparently I put my hair up all the time, or at least in every picture I was in it was up.
Just look at those pigtails! My hair is up and they still go past my shoulders!
It was like this until I was in 8th grade
If you look you can see that my hair in the back is just above my overalls!
And then in 8th grade I cut it off. This is where all the fun starts.
9th grade- short
end of 10th
Beginning of 11th
Right before I permed it
This is once my permed chilled out a little, right before my senior year
Ah, I LOVED my hair like this.
Still growing. This is when my perm started to make my life difficult, I did the logical thing and decided "hey, if I run another perm through my hair while I comb it straight I won't have to straighten out the nasty-ness every day."
.....and then I had to cut it
however I didn't have to dye it red, BUT I did it anyways. Which meant that my senior pictures looked nothing like me my senior year.
By summer it had grown out a bit but then Katie and I decided to put sun-in in our hair .....and I had to cut it out, which brought me to this...
short and I dyed it back to red
I cut it again
I dyed it... are you noticing a pattern here? Basically I can't leave my hair alone, and sadly this is all before beauty school. This is the darkest is my hair has ever been
Back to red
beginning of 2007
End of 2007
2008- beauty school= VERY blonde
... a little tooo blonde (can you say yellow?), don't even ask me what I was thinking
It didn't last long (thankfully) Thanksgiving 08
Even with all my mistakes in Beauty school I kept it pretty long. This picture is of my last night class in Beauty school. Even if I couldn't leave the bleach alone for a while, December 08.
thankfully that weird blonde bang thing didn't last long March 09
ahhh back to normal ( I really REALLY like and liked my hair like this)
and I added permanent extensions..... for about a second
Look how long it FINALLY got! May 09
Then I cut it for my 21st birthday. Not a lot just added some layers to spice it up and help me feel pretty.
which destroyed it! I was so annoyed, apparently my hair doesn't handle layers very well. The best way to describe it is my hair got all stringy at the bottom of every layer and I had to cut off a couple of inches.
But by the end of 2009 I had it figured out, until I dyed it red again
but once again it wasn't really bad to dye it red. My hair was long, shiney and healthy.
it only became a problem when I decided to put blonde back in it. Yea there were many fried off little hairs after this, and just by looking at the picture you can tell I have tons of new spike-y pieces by my part. My hair stayed like that for about 4 months and I used deep conditioner like it would save my hair but I knew it wouldn't.... so I cut it.
and after going to Toledo for a week I realized the summer humidity was going to kill me and my hair sooooo I cut it again. The first time was a must the second time.... I don't know, why do I do this to myself?
I dyed it more brown so I could work on growing out my blonde some. I hate this picture my face looks so fat.
So I was growing it out, trying to "find my roots" if you will. I was growing out my bangs and they were finally getting long enough to put behind my ear but I went through 2-3 months of them being the WORST length ever first.Well then some things happened. I'm going to write about them in another post- one this post is already huge and two- it's been a bit of a mini crisis for me. And now my hair looks like this...
This was just last week (sorry my cell phone picture is so fuzzy but you get the idea). I'll admit I really do like the bangs (now) but I'm still really irritated that I got soooooo close to growing them out and went completely through the annoying stage before I HAD to cut them. Also I was trying to grow out my layers and now they are in full swing again... uhhggg!
It's always a work in progress.

Slacking My Life Away

Lately I have been trying my darndest to go to bed at a reasonable time (approx. anytime before 11pm) and  wake up around 7am. That really doesn't give much time for blogging. I'll admit that David and I have spent an overwhelming amount of our freetime watching Dexter basically whenever we can. I really hate the swearing but I have gotten amazing at tuning it out. Sorry for all of you who had to wait so long to get a blog invite I really tried my best but I am having lots of issues. About half of the people I sent invites to I sent twice... I'm practically ready to go un-private again. I am going to have to work at taking more pictures so I can show everyone what we have been up to. Also I wrote a blog post about my hair, is that weird? Does anyone even think that would be interesting? I would read about someone else's hair but I like hair. Anyways until next time!

How to Choo$e?

Recently Verizon has FINALLY announced that they are getting the iPhone! Hurray! So I go online and start looking at plans David and I could get. About 20 min later I realize this is going to be expensive. Just for two of us to have two regular phones on a shared plan we are looking at $70- 90 bucks, depending on if we want a 10 friends and family dealeo, taxes, fees, blah, blah. On top of that David has to have a smart phone once he is a 3rd and 4th year medical student, translation? +30 bucks to that. Umm .... wow! I knew it would not be cheap but I was hoping for a little less. Verizon is basically king around here. With AT&T David gets pretty good service but I almost always have more bars. Also my whole family has Verizon and most of my friends so that seems to be the realistic choice.

But this is my real dilemma, (call me selfish) I want an iPhone too! I love my iPod touch but it doesn't have a camera or a phone on it, a crystal clear retina display, or the internet if there isn't free wi-fi somewhere near by that I can leech onto, the iPhone does. Just thinking about only carrying one device makes me smile inside. Of course I would still want to carry my real camera for the most part but if I forgot it occasionally I would still have a 5 megapixel camera on my phone. My first thought is "Yes! Me too, me too! I would love an iPhone" then my second is something like "holy crap, our bill would be huge! How would we pay for it?!?" the truth is by the time we add my phone the bill would only be $30 more. Is $30 enough money to make or break a cell phone choice? Hopefully you guys can help me by voting, and feel free to leave any input you feel important because there are many many factors when it comes to buying a phone and a cell plan, and I always love a second opinion. My poll is in the top right.

Workin' for the WoMan

Just as a pre warning this post is a huge vent session, if that bothers you just stop right here. Thank you. Also know that I greatly debated on whether to post this because I really try my best to not talk about people when they aren't around, but this has been my biggest struggle lately.

As you all know I have been working in a salon now since the last week in October. I have a confession to make; I hate it. I am struggling so much with this job! Mostly with my boss, her and I have VERY similar personalities. Normally that isn't a problem for me but she is used to people not being reliable and so she is paranoid that I will not be as well. On top of that she isn't exactly great about letting me do my own thing in the salon. She will hover over me while I do a client and many times will finish the haircuts for me (and not with my permission). It is like watching someone eat while you are starving! I'm right there but I just can't touch/ have what I want. Uhhhhgggg! It is soooooo frustrating. I am trying my best to build up a clientele, but I don't really know anyone here so my days are slow.

My boss is a great hairdresser, I'm not going to deny that, but I often feel like she doesn't think my work can stand on it's own. I'm not saying I never need help or that I am very fast, I'm just saying I feel like an adult that's been put into daycare. I can't stand the way she hovers over me she makes me crazy nervous. I can't complain too much about that though because I have done so few hair cuts/ colors since I got there that they aren't my main concern. Right now Randie (the other stylist) and I basically shadow Carrie (the boss) we get her things she needs rinse clients, clean, etc. I can't tell you how many times I go home thinking "why am I doing so much for this lady? I'm not even making minimum wage! I'm on commission and if I'm lucky I'll get $20 cash at the end of the day." I keep telling David that I wouldn't mind helping her but she is so mean sometimes.

For example a couple of weeks ago I washed a girls hair. Her hair was VeRy long and it just soaked up the conditioner right up. Instead of using more (thinking about trying not to use too much product which means trying to save my boss money) I rinse her hair out the rest of the way and take her over to Carrie so she can cut the clients hair. Well my boss takes a couple of strokes with the comb through the client's hair and then asks me "Kari did you condition her hair?" Me- "Yea I ran it all the way through the ends" (which was true). Carrie then says to the client "come back over to the sinks and I'll give you a proper conditioning"... wha? Are you kidding me?! My blood was boiling, it still upsets me to even repeat the story! Let's just start with the basics here #1- so rude to say that to the client in front of me! #2- such a low blow to think that after having my license for 2 year that I don't know how to condition someones hair #3- She could have just said "will you run some more through her hair please Kari?" or really a million other things.

That was not the first time she has done something like that she does it just about once a week, and every time she does it takes me convincing every cell in my body to not just walk out. She has the tendency to think I can read her mind. Like if she wants something done she will get all irritable but not ever say what it is that she wants (especially if there is a client there) and I am getting to the point where I just don't even want to figure it out anymore. If she can't be a big girl and use her words to tell me what she wants then she can just be irritable all day. My biggest problem with all of this is I do not have a thick skin and this contention all day just breaks me down. More often then not I can feel the tension in the salon all day. It's like the opposite of a good church day, at the end I just feel drained and upset. I could begin to name many more problems but so far the ones I have told you are my top issues.

So what do I do? How do you deal with a difficult someone who just so happens to be your difficult boss? Any and all ideas are welcome so please share.

Resolutions

I made my resolutions around Christmas time I wanted to make sure I really followed them this year. Here is my list for 2011-

1. Normalize my personal schedule
2. Work out more- I have been trying to lose a little bit of weight but this year I am going to focus more on just feeling healthier.
3. Personal Prayer/ scriptures- this one is so hit and miss for me!
4. Go to school- Yay school!
5. Cook more- So far we like what I have made but I want to learn how to make more.

Family Goals

1. Bring Christ into our lives more
2. Say morning prayers- We are really good at night time ones :)
3. Have Family Night- We spend a lot of quality time together so I figure we might as well start and end it with a prayer.
4. Live on a smaller budget
5. Do more local activities in the church and community- I am really trying to get to know people in our ward and there isn't a better way besides being active.

Of corse there are lots of other little things but these are the main goals I have. Number one for David and I is to bring Christ into our lives more and the primary way I plan to do that is to make sure we have plenty of pictures of the Savior in our home. The second way I hope to bring Christ into our lives is by reading the Living Christ once a month.

2010 Was a Good One

Last year I didn't make any resolutions. The upside to that is I do feel like I accomplished plenty. 2010 was the year I was waiting for. I haven't had a year that good since 2006, for various reasons.

In 2010-
I rented a booth in a salon for the first time
I got a great new Boyfriend
I got to celebrate Valentine's Day with a SPECIAL someone for the FIRST time
I got engaged
I went back to school
My Colin turned one!
I (this one should be We but David insists I'm smart enough on my own) conquered school! 3.8, it doesn't get a whole lot better than that, I was really proud of myself.

I got a passport
We ran in a marathon, it was only 5k but I did it and I did it on my birthday!

We got married
We went on a cruise
I went out of the country for the first time
I added 3 countries to my list in under a week
I added 8 states to my list of states
We packed, and packed and pAcKeD!
We helped set up for Our reception
We bought a house!
We moved across the country!
David started Medical school
I passed the Cosmetology Boards for Ohio
We stayed with total strangers while our house closed
We now live in
We went to Misery, I mean Missouri
We went to Washington DC
and We celebrated New Year's with some new friends

I hope this next year will be just as good. David and I have much to look forward to, ending his first year of med school, visiting Idaho this summer and getting sealed!

Privacy Please

When I announced I was going private with my blog a couple of you asked "why." I'll be honest, the number one reason was to make sure that neither my Ex nor his family could look at my blog anymore. Don't get me wrong in some ways the thought of them seeing me happy and moving on made me happy, but at the same I don't want them to know anything about me. Also I don't want any of you to think that I think they looked at it all the time anyways. Moving to Ohio was a great way for me to move on physically so changing my blog to private was my opportunity to move on mentally. It is part of my New Year's resolution to just leave it allllll behind, no more bringing any of it up. My life is my life and I only want to share it with certain people, I feel like that is simple enough.

My second reason was simple private blog= privacy, it's all in the name. I have been a little concerned with how much I share on the internet can be connected to the ease at which a person's identity can be stolen. For example I have taken most of my likes off Facebook and I check my privacy settings once a week. I really don't like the idea of someone I don't know looking through all of my stuff.

Last but not least, I have watched several of you ladies go private and it seems like you still get enough comments and visitors anyways.

That being said I love to look at my stats! I think it is so fun to see which posts are popular and which ones are not. Haha, without fail it surprises me because I will write a blog about something and when I'm done I'll think in my head "why on earth would I publish this?" and within 24 hours I'll have 5 comments on it. The opposite is just as true I'll post something that I'll think is really fun or cool and no one says a thing! You just never know.
