He's 2 1/2

Here is another update that must be made. My BABY is two and a half.... that can't possibly be, he only turned two 7 months ago.... oh.
A balloon guy made him a sword at Skyline Chili.
Davie is a crazy child, he's neither sassy or submissive, more like stubborn. Over the last couple of months his new favorite thing to do (especially when he is tired or hungry) is throw ridiculous fits over (insert ANYTHING) and no matter what our answer is he is crying. Yes. No. Yes. No.

Me- Davie do you want me to read a book
Davie- (crying and whining) no! I don't want to read a book
Me- Ok
Davie- NOOOO! I want to read a book!!
Me- Ok, lets pick one out
Davie- NOOOO!

repeat. REPEAT. repeat. x100

It drives us nuts.

He would easily take a late afternoon nap if I let him, but he would then stay up until midnight EVERY night. Not interested kiddo sorry.

He can get the mailbox open all by himself!
Davie also loves to watch Gnomeo and Juliet, which makes me super happy because it's an adorable movie and I LOVE it. Watching it reminds me of bringing him home from the hospital and watching it with my mama. He also now refers to the hot (red) and cold (blue) knobs on the sink as Gnomeo and Juliet. And he loves to talk about featherstone the "mingo" and say "whose your Gnomie now?" The movie received terrible reviews on rotten tomatoes so believe me it's great (no sarcasm, the critics hate all the movies I love and I would consider myself pretty picky).

He also loves to make deals using the same phrases I use. "mommy we can watch a movie and den eat. That sound good?" (imagine a super cute toddler voice going up at the end in imitation of their mommy)

 His very own "Normous" watermelon.
He's still obsessed with cars. All cars, always. That would be his Christiansen blood showing through.
The other day David and I were watching a movie and as the two main characters kissed I teasingly/flirt asked him if that made him want to kiss me like that at which point Davie yells "No!"
Hey now I wasn't even asking you!
He loves to tell me to not talk. Example
I am talking on the phone with someone in the car.
Davie- Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!
Me- What Davie?
Davie- Don't talk mommy, don't talk!
I was singing in the car the other day and Davie's reaction was "what's that noise?"

Davie the fish. He loves swimming.
Within the last week he has started saying "whatever". I'll admit he got that one from me, but I almost always say it in an exasperated way when I'm frustrated. Because of this when Davie uses this word he's usually not being sassy, or at least I don't think so, he's just saying it. For example He'll say "mommy I want juice.... whatever mommy" haha I don't think he's quite figured out how to use it yet. I probably shouldn't encourage him using this word but I can't do anything but laugh/chuckle when it comes out of my 2 year old.
When we went to the pool with David a few weeks ago two very young very pregnant girls, they couldn't have been more than 20, came in and took off their clothes to reveal bikinis. Brave souls. At which point Davie begins to point exclaim "BELLY BUTTONS, BELLY BUTTONS, BIIIGG BELLY BUTTON" (oh my goodness could you be any louder?!) The truth shall be told out of the mouths of babes, no? Thankfully, the pool was busy enough I'm pretty sure the girls didn't hear.

Davie opens, climbs and gets everything he is so smart. Not only that but most of the time neither David or I have taught  him. We always tell him to never wake up Macy or get into things so another one of his common phrases right now if we tell him no or not to do something is "Never, ever, ever, ever!"
My favorite moment recently (and one that is quite embarrassing on my part, you are just lucky I'm ok with self deprecating humor) was when I farted the other day and Davie says "Mommy you did an elephant fart?" Ok seriously it was nothing close to that and then he says "You did a BIG elephant fart??". Um, wow. So the next time you hear an elephant fart you can think of me (insert embarrassed emoticon face) Thank you Davie. Needless to say I was laughing super hard, I have no clue where he got that.

He is a pretty darn good big brother. If I had to name his biggest flaw that isn't age related (hello un-gentle toddler) it's that he LOVES to wake her up. We HATE it and we tell him no every time. One of the most common phrases in our house aside from "be gentle" is "we NEVER want you to wake Macy up EVER" Now you know where he gets the never ever.  We finally put his highchair away. I know he's super old for it, but the kid has never been a good eater (he's SLOWLY getting better) and that coupled with his inability to hold still made putting away the highchair one of the last things I wanted to do.

He fell asleep under this blanket on the floor. Such a silly boy when it comes to sleep.
Anyways he is currently potty training and has had a couple of accident free days! Wow, can I just say I am VERY pleasantly surprised.
Basically he is just a growing boy who cannot get enough life. I just hope I can keep up with him!

I LOVE his sleeping face. It melts my heart.

My Mommy Moment

Occasionally some of you ladies will post articles about being a mom, having children and all those other details that go along with it on Facebook. Some articles I really like others... not so much. Today as I was going through some of Davie's things that are too small or can be put into storage (we are getting a bigger storage unit and meeting with a relator on MONDAY!) I was remembering my biggest "new mom" hurdle.
For me nothing about having a baby is that "gross" a little uncomfortable? sure. Less appropriate to talk about in some situations then others? Yup. A squeamish topic around men? Yes sir. But in reality its just a body process that (like many) has it's share of fluids. I was never taught that birth had no "yucky" parts. I just slowly learned how it worked and I was fine with it. Did that mean when I had Davie that I wanted the doctor to hand him to me when he was still all "wet". NO! But in that moment I quickly realized, oh thats not as bad as I thought it would be. I should also add that Davie was not as slimy or sticky as some babies are when he was born. I also realized he didn't stink, not sure what I thought it would smell like but it wasn't anything "gross".
Must protect the blessing outfit!
Flash forward to having that new baby. I was prepared for baby poop messes, long nights, lots of crying and maybe even an "I don't care about myself" phase. Well not much of that ever happened. Instead I got the baby that literally spit up ALL the time for ALMOST the first year of his life. And not like "oh he drooled, how cute!" Like drench a blanket in one go, use 4+ blankets a day, outfit changes, drool by the pint (without teething I might add), buy 10 more spit up blankets, always doing laundry, and SOOO many bibs all the time kind of spit up.
That picture of Davie right there was after he spit up ALL over had a yucky diaper and then peed on us. Whew! Talk about your clean up marathon. He literally wore out his bibs, we still use them even though the velcro on them does almost nothing. Turns out theres only so many times you can wash velcro before it gives up the ghost (four washes a day sometimes). That was so tough for me!
Here I was thinking "wow this mom stuff isn't so bad", Davie wasn't so bad, I really felt like I had time to get "washed up/ made up" for the day. My bigger deterrent was the thought of Davie spewing allll over my "nice" clothes. And without fail most days that I actually got ready he did. Including a black lace shirt, it was gross.

All of that basket is HIS laundry.
So as I was picking out the very boy spit blankets and leaving out the yellow, green and ducky themed ones for the new little miss I got the tiniest bit of dread at the thought of having another baby. What if she spits up the way Davie did!?! I'll deal, because I have to, but darn that would really stink. That picture of all the spit up blankets above doesn't do itself justice because there really are an abnormal amount of them, they are just really flat from being folded in their box for so long.
He was a happy spitter-upper
For the most part every baby has their "downside" some don't sleep their first year, others have colic, while others seem to have a curious amount of diaper catastrophes. I guess what I am trying to get at here is this is my official "putting what I want out into the universe" blog post concerning this next baby- please be a decent sleeper at least until my classes are finished and please don't spit up on me for the whole first year of your life. That's all I ask... for now.

What's Up?

I should be writing two papers right now. David and David are both in bed and true to my usual self I am not sleepy enough to go to sleep myself. I might say this several times in this post but I seriously cannot wait to get this school semester over with! Like cannot wait. At. ALLLLLLLL! I don't know why I keep getting so stressed out, I am only behind in ONE of my three classes and the two that I am ok in I am pretty sure I am getting an A. Its the Religion class that I am SUPER behind in that gives me anxiety all day long, not enough to get work done (although its not purely due to lack of trying). I think I have a low B in that class right now, but seeing as how the teacher has had almost no communication with me even after I have written him several times and asked when would be a good time for me to go in and speak with him I'm not even sure how REAL that B is. So of course I'm blogging. I would however like to point out that I have signed out of Facebook for the week. I just wish that really was where all my wasted time was being wasted. I seriously doubt not getting on Facebook this week is going to help me catch up in my class.
On to other subjects. The weather here has been pretty mild lately except for yesterday, it was more windy than I have ever experienced here in Toledo before. David has been studying like crazy for his next organ system test in hopes of getting a 93% or higher on the last test. If he manages to get that 93% he will have gotten honors in the entire class, which is impressive since organ systems represents his class time from about November until now. It is a good class to get honors in. I'm glad he works so hard but man I have not enjoyed being home alone all day. Yes Davie is there but he isn't very good at conversation; its a little one-sided if you know what I mean.
Which brings me to the next thing that has been on my mind lately. It is official as of about last week I MISS Idaho. It has taken me almost 2 years but I am now officially homesick. I miss being able to simply call up friends or cousins or even just my Mom or David's and be able to go chill out with them. I also miss not having to worry about whether or not I am really "friends" with people... that sounds so pubescent I'm not even sure what to do with myself! But truly I feel like I am in junior high again. I'm sure you all remember those days of constant awkwardness and anxiety about making and keeping new friends. That is how I feel. I'm embarrassed to even admit it. David has started insisting that I go to at least one social shindig a week in order to cut down on my anxiety and to get out of the house. How sad is that? David (the infamous homebody) is telling me (the social one of our duo) to be social haha, bleh! I just miss being able to KNOW I fit in, I forgot how horribly awkward I can be sometimes. Anyways I decided that if I was going to be on the internet this week I needed to blog not waste time on Facebook, hopefully I will catch up a little.

I am in love with this pose, puppy bum and all
I hope you enjoy the pictures of Davie. I had to put something interesting up for this post. Also I'm sad to even say this but my baby is going to be 3 months old tomorrow. I love that little boy so much!
What a chubby stud

Happy St. Patrick's Day

This time last year we got to hang out with some of our best buddies. This year due to poor planning, school and a baby we didn't really do much of anything. It was of course another beautiful day, already getting very hot, but nonetheless very beautiful . The one thing we did manage to is go on a walk and have some green spaghettis which were delicious. Here are the pictures-
We were going to have red sauce with it and make it a grand old meal like last time instead we decided to just brown the noodles a little and put LOTS of Romano cheese on it, but we did have green gatorade. Have I mentioned that we have started buying all different kinds of yummy cheese? Well we have and it is TASTY! We love cheese.
Getting ready for a walk. Look at that happy boy! Getting his smile on camera is almost impossible.
Done with the picture taking already
I got his outfit the day before at Wal*Mart for $2. I was going to get one they had that was specifically for St. Patrick's day but this one was $5 cheaper and it had more green.
All that walking just wore him out!
My boys. Notice how David is not wearing green? Neither was I, it might become tradition haha.

What About Us?

With all this talk about Davie you might think that David and I don't have a life besides Davie, which is kinda true but just to clarify we do! And here is what's up. Remember that test I told you David had to study for the whole first week of Davie's life? Well David tore it up and came out with a 95%! He is on his way to honors in that entire class. It won't be easy but if he can pull it off then he might get into AOA (Alpha Omega Alpha) which could possibly lead to him getting choice placement for residency.

As for me the two to three weeks leading up to Davie's birthday were full of studying for CLEPP tests. The first one was History and Social Sciences then I tested out of Humanities. I took the history test a week or so after Christmas and the Himanities one the week after that. Both of which were the most broad tests I have ever taken in my life! At the end of each test I was freaking out to see what my score was.

The results? I got the equivalent (its really rough to say) of a 82% on the History test and a 90% in Humanities (which totally shocked me!). My score for the history test was 7 points over what I needed but I momentarily forgot and for two seconds I panicked thinking that I had missed the mark by 3 points. That was scary. I found a WAY better studying tool for the Humanities test and even though I felt less prepared I scored 15 points higher than what I needed. I was so happy because with that score I instantly knew I had passed. I can't even describe the relief and euphoria I experienced after leaving both of those tests! I earned 20 credits in about 3 weeks and I paid about 250 bucks! So worth it!!!

Also the night I had Davie, David called me when he got home to let me know that The Universisty of Toledo sent me a certificate in the mail from the dean for my 4.0 GPA. I can't lie that really made me feel cool.
David and I have now reached the end of our second parental visit and real life has started. I miss not having to cook, help with cleaning, laundry, the extra hands and people to talk to while David is at school all day (really the list goes on and on) BUT I know that both of us will get more studying done :)

Thus far I haven't done too bad with school. I let my teachers know ahead of time that I was expecting a baby this semester and they have worked with me quite well. I am completely up to date in my science class (this teacher was the least responsive so I figured it best to just not fall behind), almost up to date in my Baby boomers class but pretty far behind in my religious conflicts in society class. It's all a work in progress but I think I'll catch up before the month ends.

In other news I was released from my Young Women's calling. The YW president had been in since she very first moved to Toledo. Her hubby is now in his final year of medical school so they will be leaving this summer. Sometimes I'm sad I have been released and other times it overwhelms me (to the point of anxiety) just to think about taking care of Davie, my school work, the house, AND teaching lessons every couple of weeks on top of planning and attending activities. It was definitely a fun experience although I feel like I was totally scatter brained on one too many occasions of which I will blame on pregnancy. Im not one to blame every negative thing that happens to me during pregnancy on pregnancy mainly because I don't believe most of the symptoms but being an air head during pregnancy was (for me) an unfortunate reality. I'm usually pretty good at remembering stuff but I dropped the ball a couple of times and it was kinda embarrassing (ok really embarrassing).

Lastly David and I FINALLY went and got our eyes checked again. Turns out the reason why neither of us could see was because our prescriptions had changed. Mine was a year and a half old and we don't even know how old David's was. I'm a little sad because I went from a 2 and a 2.5 to 2.75 and 3, but bigger is better right? Right? It's amazing how horrible I've realized my vision in my glasses is now that I can compare it to my new contacts. No wonder I was always squinting and getting annoyed! And that just about wraps it up for David and I sometimes it seems busy around here and other times not so much but things are definitely going well.

Four for August

What has been going on!?! I feel like I have barely said a word on here this month and it's true. Instead of waiting and posting everything in order I have made and executive decision to interrupt our trip to Cali to give you what has happened since we got back to T-town (I just made that up). In the last 16 days since we have been back we have figured out student loans, majors, schedules, insurance, placement tests, campus locales and books.
David and I both started school last Monday! Which officially makes me a Toledo Rocket! Yay go rockets!! And then by last Tuesday the 23rd, I had changed my classes (again). I changed my major on tuesday the 16th which was kind of a bummer because that meant all the cool classes were gone. The plus side was I was able to get into a program that will let me CLEP test out of three of lower level classes. I cannot even begin to describe how happy that makes me! Basically it means if I pass I'll get 30 credits which is equivalent to a year of school. Translation? I'll get credit for going to beauty school, or at least that what it makes me feel like. Not only that but a lot of the lower level sciences that are included in the CLEP test review the things I learned in beauty school. AWESOME!

In the last 16 days since we have been home I have also had 3 doctors appointments. Two with the baby doctor and one with a regular one. As many of you may know I had a cough for about a week when I left the great state of Idaho... well when I got here I still had it. On the 18th I had an appointment and let my doctor know in detail what was going on. This was because I had been coughing for over two weeks and had not really been getting any better; I was a little worried I might have had Bronchitis or walking pneumonia. Either way I had never had it, so I didn't know what to look for. To add to the coughing, the day or so before I had begun to feel a great deal of sharp pain in my upper right lung and directly behind it in my back.

I told them how long, how much and all that good stuff, including the fact that I was indeed taking ibuprofen. To which they said "oh don't take that, take Tylenol." When I told them tylenol didn't help they didn't really say anything else, just repeated no ibuprofen. I don't really recall my previous doctors putting any such ban on ibuprofen, other than to take it sparingly. Also from what I have read online as long as you don't take it in your 3rd trimester you should be fine. ANYWAYS two days later I woke up in soooooooo much pain I couldn't even bring myself to cry because my chest and back hurt so bad. Not only that but I woke up at like 4:45 am, which is a little early. So I took some more ibuprofen. Long story short I got a run around but finally got into the dr. again and was FINALLY prescribed SOMETHING to help me out! Although they did again get mad at me for taking ibuprofen.
My drugs. I don't know if I have ever had three different prescription medicines that I needed to take all at once, so I figured it deserved a picture. I had a Z-pack, Codeine, and the Advair inhaler. I still find it a little crazy that ibuprofen was a "no-no" but I'm allowed to take Codeine... which is an Opiate. Whatever!
This is a really cool stopper deal-y that the pharmacist gave me. Who I might add was really nice and worked with us on one of my prescription's price. Did I mention that when I finally got to the pharmacy counter I found out my insurance was over? Yup it's true. I'll leave it at that but I will say that I was freaking out and now we have it all under control. Where was I? Oh yeah, so this super cool little stopper deal makes it so you can use the medicine syringe to get the medicine out without dipping the syringe in the bottle and getting it all sticky.
Not only that but it looks legit! Haha, I'm not going to lie when I say I feel all cool filling it up with my medicine. Well until I remember that I am the one who has to take it :(

All I can say for my disobedience is this, "I wouldn't have taken it if they had helped me out the first time." Also I feel that because I really needed, and I mean NEEDED all caps, an anti-inflamitory that my behavior was totally reasonable. It's just annoying that they didn't listen to me when I told them, in detail, what was going on the first time. The experience has me a little concerned about how well they will listen to me in the future. Also it sounds like they are anti-membrane striping to start labor (don't mind if you go over your due date), and will wait until your body has the baby itself kind of people. We may not get along. So that was fun.

What else? I can now say I have gotten lost on campus, parked WAY tooooo far away and walked miles to get to my next class. That was a "fun" day let me tell ya. I have also totally BS-ed an assignment because we helped one of my best-est friends move away from us! Also in my defense I didn't have one of the books I needed. I literally got it in the mail yesterday. I was gone all summer and the Young Women's president was gone for several weeks as well. So last week I had an extra long planning meeting. I felt bad because I was sick and had to leave early, but I searched up/thought up some pretty cool ideas for our Young Women in excellence night. That made me pretty happy.

Other than that not much has happened around here, HAH! Sarcasm, gotta love it. Until next time, if there ever is one :) TTFN!!

Favorite Stuff

Considering I haven't written a random post about nothing recently I decided that I am behind on meaningless posts. As a random side note before I start I would like to say that I am SOOO glad that my visiting Colin post has finally knocked my downeast bashing post from the number one spot. Also the post about questionable cereal marshmallows has moved down one as well, haha I NEVER would have guessed so many people would have read it. That being said I can move on. Recently I have decided I need to make a list of things that I really love. So here it is, no particular order.

1. Family history! In May I pulled out a huge family history chart that was from my great Grandma Hazel and decided I wanted to fill out as much of it as I could. The chart has David and I as the second place and our first kid is first. It's been really awesome to dig up all the names from the church's website but I was also lucky enough to have a little help from David's Granny Lou. She helped me fill in the Warden part of the chart. I feel much closer to our relatives after knowing their names. David and I plan to pretty much only use family names for our kids. I can't tell you how often I correct people when spelling my name and it isn't even that uncommon, there's just 50 ways to  spell it (literally). I'm excited to have names that our kids can have in common with their ancestors as well as be easy to spell pronounce and grow into.
this is before I filled in David's side

2. Clorox/ Lysol house wipes. What can I say? They cut down on my laundry and make everything we use them on smell and feel clean, I just can't live without them. They are great for cleaning the kitchen, bathroom, and I like to use them on/ in the car as well. Great stuff.

3. This one I'm not going to talk about specifically, it's kinda personal, but I will give some comments and a link. It's called the Diva cup. I found out about it over Christmas break on an annoying little add on the sidebar of Facebook. At first I was like, WEIRD! Mainly because they also had washable feminine napkins on the website, which are awesome for ladies in foreign countries but again NOT for me. Then I got to thinking about how much money I could save not buying personal products all the time and decided to give it a try. I should also state that this is as close to "green" or "eco" friendly as I can get. All you amazing ladies who cloth diaper your babies (Julie, Darci and I know there's more) I could NOT do it. Mainly cuz it's gross, I don't do poop, and yes I know that by having children I will deal with poop plently but regular diapers are bad enough. All the more power to the ladies that can. Anyways I've used it, decided I like it but I'll admit there was a sharp leaning curve with it. Never thought I would be able to say I use something like it but its been really convenient.
4. Classical music, and church music. I have always been a BIG music lover. Unlike some people even as a teen I can remember listening to just about everything all the time. Over the last 2+ years I have found myself listening to less and less of anything, even in the car. That is different for me but the other thing I feel that I have changed is that I no longer only listen to soft music just for bed, when I'm stressed or tired. Lately I've been turning it on in the car whenever. I like it. Change is good.
5. Sewing. I have always liked sewing. Ever since I was a little kid I liked the idea of being able to make some thing I could actually use. I can remember on plenty of occasions trying to use my mother's nice sewing machine by myself to do things I probably shouldn't have, sorry Mom. I have decided to try and make a dress. It's going to be pretty darn cute, but as usual I'm having a difficult time keeping it going. I'll do a ton of work on it one day, and then not touch it for a week. Yea, I could work on consistency.
