Detroit Temple

Last Wednesday David and I got to go to the temple for the first time since we have been married! We really should have gone before we left Idaho Falls but time just didn't really allow us to. David agreed to drive his friend’s car home from the airport that night and I figured if he's already going to be in Detroit we might as well go to the temple. What a great experience! The Detroit temple is very (VERY) small, but the spirit there was so strong and it was such a nice getaway for David and I. I got to do a sealing session for my first time. It was a little emotional for me.
The first time I ever got sealed to anyone (besides my parents) things obviously didn't go as planned and as time went on and things got rough it would feel like a suffocating bond that I couldn't handle. Even though I had chosen freely to be married before I felt forced to be with them. It felt like it was too much and it was all wrong, one reason for this is I don't believe I was as worthy as I should have been at the time. Had I been a little more honest with myself I probably wouldn't even have gone to the temple or gotten married. Turns out being honest can save us from lots of troubles. But sitting in the sealing room with David on Wednesday I wished so much that we could have been married in the temple the FIRST time. The spirit was so strong and I know that David and I are meant to be together.

We sealed several families together and during all that time I realized these things I have been telling you. Being sealed is a privilege something people strive for and sometimes even die for; it's a blessing. I'm just so glad that I get to be sealed to David next summer I've been thinking about it a lot. It's something I definitely took for granted, here I have been complaining about having to wait a year and these people have been waiting years, maybe even centuries. I wish I could learn some lessons more easily but I do have a habit of almost losing and sometimes completely losing things before I realize how important they are to me. I am just thankful for the opportunity I had to feel the spirit have peace in my heart, be at the temple and be with David.
We're on our way!
A tunnel I tried to get pictures of trees because all the trees are changing but everytime I passed a bunch that were pretty I didn't have my camera ready.

I really wanted to get a picture of David and I in front of the temple but by the time we got there it was raining steadily and our session was starting in like 15 min! It rained all night too, it was a white knuckled drive home and it seemed EXTRA dark, we drove home on almost an inch of water (scary!!). I still think it seemed dark because we had just been filled with light at the temple, ahh such a good trip.

Testing, two times a charm?

This is the latest in my cosmetology license transfer. On July 23rd I sent out a letter to Ohio and Idaho State, the one to Idaho was to request they send a letter to Ohio proving I passed my tests and the letter to Ohio was to ask to transfer my license. Ohio received this letter on August 2nd and immediately put all my paperwork on hold until after Labor Day. Well I didn't know this until 2 weeks after they received my papers. It was the first time I had talked to a real human being and she was EXTREMLY short with me. I was trying to ask all of these questions in order to figure things out and she was constantly trying to end the conversation (freaking government workers).  When I did finally figure out what was going on I was furious but what could I do, so I waited. Two days after Labor Day I call the office again and I find that my application is still on hold. I wait another week with the same results.

In the meantime I find a full time job at Dillard’s; I like the job not the company, long story. Last Wednesday I got a call from the licensing people and they say they sent out a packet of info for me the day before. Two days later my mom says it arrived at HER house, uuuhhggggg! I have her overnight it and it actually gets to my house the next day.

When I open the letter and begin to read this is what I get, "As of September 14th, 2010 ALL out of state licenses will be required to take the practical, written and manager's exam in Ohio, no matter how long you have been licensed or previous exams you have taken." translation- more time and money for me. My blood was boiling!! The practical and written exam reviews in the packet they gave me were almost IDENTICAL from the ones I took in Idaho, really people? Really???? I graduated school with 500 more hours then these people and they are going to make me test again. Uhg! I guess I wouldn't have minded so much if they didn't take two months to tell me this but they did and now to put it lightly I am unhappy.

So that's where I'm at and the only good thing I read in the whole letter was the part where they told me I would be able to work under a permit. I can't help but be frustrated; this whole process is costing me time when I could have been working in a salon and LOTS of money. I am so NOT patient. I have begun to think I might never be I'm in for a LONG ride. The last piece of news is I have a job! I haven't started but this Saturday I'm going in to do some pre-marketing things with the boss so that when I do start working the customers that already go to the salon will know who I am. Did I mention my current manager's (at Dillard’s) first name is Carrie? Well it is and if the salon I'm looking at now works out I'll be working for ANOTHER Carrie.... and I'm Kari... weird but very cool. The End, I hope my venting didn't upset anyone but I am still fuming over this whole ordeal.

PB&J's

For all of you who are married you know that the longer you are with your spouse the more you learn about them, all the way down to the specifics. One thing I have known about David since we first started dating is that he is picky about his food, and I mean PICKY.

One of his biggest dislikes had always been peanut butter. I guess as a kid he had a bad experience with it and he decided that he no longer liked it. Well over the years he has slowly gotten better and let's just say that serving a mission in Ecuador definitely helped. Since we moved into our house I have been packing him a lunch so that we can save money and hopefully eat a little healthier.

One morning I asked him if he would PLEASE just try a PB&J, if nothing else just to make my life easier. David being the wonderful loving husband he is agreed to "try". That night I asked him how it went, honestly I was crossing my fingers because I was definitely to benefit from the new menu item, and his conclusion was he liked it! Of course I was happy and so I began to make him PB&J sandwiches for lunch every morning.

A couple days later after speaking with his parents, we go shopping for groceries and suddenly David says "We forgot to tell my parents about the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!" Me- "Oh yeah? We will just have to remember to tell them next time" David- "No you don't understand this is big for me, we need to call them back now!" So we proceed to call them back, the way David went about telling them his new culinary development still cracks me up. He acted like we were going to tell his parents like we were pregnant or something (he didn’t do it on purpose and I'm not pregnant) haha it was just really awkward. He was like "I have something BIG to tell you guys" and he went on to tell them about his discovery of the PB&J.

Conclusion? I'm really glad that every once in a while I make him try things and he ends up liking it, also it didn't hurt that it made my life easier. Last week when I was making his lunch in the morning he says "You know I've really fallen in love with your peanut butter and jelly sandwiches" awww so cute! When he said "I've really fallen in love" I was waiting for him to say with me because the mushy comments are a norm in our house but I guess just this once I can live with him liking my culinary masterpiece (aka the PB&J).

8 questions

1. Describe the FIRST childhood memory that pops into your head upon reading this.
When I was about 7 I had a friend named Jessica Mix and she came over to my house to spend the night. It was summer so we were playing outside, we were pretending like we were Indians (ie- some kind of native with all that gathering leaves and acting like we were eating them and wearing clothes like Disney's Pocahontas etc) and we decided to make up our own language. Haha but really it was just English all jumbled, like for white man I think we decided to call him "flower" so we would act like we were in the village and then yell out "flower! Flower!" when we saw the white man, it was fun. We thought it was so cool! I guess that's what happens when you have an obsession with Pocahontas, haha, ahh... good times.
2. What was the worst date you have ever been on?
It was my junior Valentines dance. I asked a guy I thought I got along with and he acted like I loved him and would dance with other girls. He was just a brat the whole time, and for months afterwards. Stupid boys.
3. If you had to choose between a little shack made out of cardboard (we'll say this one is about 8'X8' and about 8' high), but it was built on the beach close to the incoming tides (so good luck with that) and only enough food around to eat 2 coconuts per day as well as open ulcers all over your body brought on by simple scrapes, or a really nice house but not enough money to pay for it ever and have debt collectors hounding you 24/7 and embarrassing you by chastising you in public until you paid your bills that you would never be able to pay in a million years, plus you signed a contract saying you wouldn't sell/move out of the house for another 5 years, what would you choose and why?
I would choose the big house. I want to have a big family so even though I would be going through a lot of garbage with bill collectors at least they would be comfortable. Also I've had one physical trial in my life and I hated it I couldn't do ulcers... uuuck!
4. Name something you thought you'd never do/have to do but did.

Get divorced, and give a baby up for adoption, it still boggles my mind!

5. If you could be anywhere right now where would it be and who would you be with?
With David in bed watching Eureka, or really anywhere as long as he was with me <3
6. What is one food/meal you take pride in cooking really really well?
Hmmm I'm really not sure on this one, I don't have a lot of specific meals that I cook. It's usually just chicken or a form of protien with a vegetable for dinner.

7. For the married folk, thinking back on your wedding, what would you change and why? For the non-married folk, what is one absolute necessity for your wedding day (besides the spouse and the temple/location)?
I wish my paperwork would have gone through and David and I could have been married in the temple. It's frustrating that it was paperwork that changed our plans. Other than that eVeRyThInG was perfect.... ahhh good times.

8. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
Before I cut my hair at least 1 and 1/2 hours, since I cut it, I can do it in about 45 min. That right there proves that a good hair cut can cut your time in half!

I'll tag 8 people later :)
